Joint Security Forces Mobilize in Plateau State After Renewed Fatal Clashes
JOS, NIGERIA – Joint security teams comprising military personnel, police, and civil defense units have significantly intensified operations across various flashpoints in Plateau State following a fresh wave of deadly clashes that claimed scores of lives in recent days. The deployment, which began earlier this week, aims to restore peace, protect communities, and apprehend individuals responsible for the escalating violence that has gripped several local government areas.
The renewed insecurity has plunged communities, particularly in Mangu, Bokkos, and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas, into fresh turmoil. Residents report a climate of fear and displacement, with many fleeing their homes in search of safety. The attacks, often characterized by coordinated raids on villages, have led to widespread destruction of property and agricultural assets, exacerbating humanitarian concerns in the already fragile region.
According to a statement issued by military authorities, the intensified operations involve ground patrols, intelligence gathering, and air surveillance aimed at identifying and neutralizing threats. “Our mandate is clear: to secure lives and property, and ensure that those who perpetuate these heinous acts face the full wrath of the law,” stated Major General Abubakar Ibrahim, Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-agency task force responsible for maintaining peace in the state. He further assured residents that the forces are committed to a sustained presence until stability is firmly established.
