Rep. Ilhan Omar's Legal Team Alleges Justice Dept. Violated Search Warrant Restrictions
WASHINGTON D.C. – Attorneys representing U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) have formally accused the Justice Department of disregarding a federal judge's specified restrictions during a search of her home, according to a letter obtained by The Washington Post. The legal team condemned the inquiry into Omar's immigration history as a politically motivated attack, raising serious questions about prosecutorial overreach and adherence to constitutional safeguards.
In the letter, sent to the Justice Department earlier this week, Omar’s legal counsel asserts that federal agents exceeded the scope of a search warrant issued in connection with an ongoing investigation. While the precise details of the warrant's limitations were not publicly disclosed, the attorneys claimed authorities conducted what they described as an “unconstitutionally expansive” search, venturing beyond the parameters set by the court.
“The actions taken by federal agents during the search of Representative Omar’s private residence represent a severe departure from judicial directives and a blatant disregard for the Fourth Amendment,” stated the letter from Omar’s legal representatives. “This overzealous operation appears less like a legitimate law enforcement action and more like a targeted political assault on a prominent Member of Congress.”
